Hoof-shaped fungus with a shiny, black, cracked crust. sessile and perhaps imbicate growth. In face view it seems like three fungi are in a telescopic form and fused together. Margins are incurved, and the pores are minute and pinkish. Found on the cut end of a downed hemlock (Tsuga canadenssis). Thinking Fomitopsis pinicola but the pores are not cream colored. Flesh and pores turned black with KOH.
