Observation 132238: Apiosporina morbosa (Schwein) Arx.

When: 2013-04-21

Collection location: Moon Lake Park, Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]

Who: Phil Yeager (gunchky)

Specimen available

Notes:
Found on Cheery tree twig. This fungus is responsible for the demise of two “Stanley Plum” trees on my property over the last 47 years. How can it be prevented from desroying fruit trees? I tried to remove infected limbs, and applied bleach to my pruning equipment after each cut, but to no avail. I also cut each infected portion from the point of infection at least one foot backwards towards the main lateral or trunk.
