Observation 132280: Dendrographa Darbish.

When: 2013-03-25

Collection location: Point Lobos State Park, Monterey Co., California, USA [Click for map]

36.5221° -121.9536°

Who: Ken-ichi (kueda)

No specimen available

This lichen was growing in the cypress at Point Lobos, coating the branches alongside Trentepohlia. Ramalina has been suggested, though it’s not quite like any of the species in that genus I’ve seen before. Anyone have any clues?

Recognized by sight: there are two species of Dendrographa at Point Lobos, I don’t remember the difference, but if you do a search on-line you might find some short article(s) about them (in the CALS bulletin, I think)

Ramalina by gestalt for me too, but now leaning Dendrographa (which I’ve never seen). Looking at the 3rd photo at http://lichens.digitalmycology.com/... Hopefully we will hear from Jason (who did that photo).

Oh, the irony

I don’t know the first thing about lichen. Or, at the most, I know the first thing, but nothing more. I guessed Ramalina on gestalt, that’s all.

Not Dendrographa?

I was looking at pics of other lichens from Pt. Lobos and that actually looked pretty good. What makes you think this is Ramalina and not Dendrographa?
