Observation 132434: Agaricus deserticola G. Moreno, Esqueda & Lizárraga
When: 2013-03-28
No herbarium specimen

Notes: I am using this species name as someone has suggested it to me. This was found near Tucson, Arizona growing beneath a prickly pear cactus at an elevation of about 2,900 feet. It was a few days old when someone pointed it out to me. Upon closer inspection and carefully removing it from the soil the spores that emerged were very black. The entire organism was quite dry and crumbled easily. Why not! It’s so dry there. I was surprised to see something like this at that elevation. Lived there for many years and never saw any fungi at that elevation.
