Nope, looks like you might be right. Singer had a different concept of O. olearius that is not synonymized with O. illudens… That one might be a European taxon though. I guess it needs further looking into.

if they don’t look like illudens, then why vote down olearius??

Don’t look much like the O. illudens I find. For starters, the stipe is significantly more robust. Also, I find O. illudens exclusively under hardwood and most Florida obs look like they are under conifer.

I’d love to see one of these Florida obs get microscopically compared to northern specimens with contradictory morphology.

Species fungorum lists olearius and illudens as synonymous with illudens taking precedence.
