D. eschscholtzii in NZ

There are several records from New Zealand of this species in NZ but overall the species is deemed to be “recorded in error.”

It may be D. dennissii. I’ll have to ask Peter Johnstone about it.

This specimen was originally identified by Peter Johnstone at Landcare Research in Auckland upon spore analysis. He is an expert on Ascomycota. There are records of X. eschscholzii from NZ apart from this one. However, I notice the presence of X. eschscholzii in NZ is now considered uncertain.

is known from parts of Australia, but has not (yet) been reported from New Zealand. still, to assign that name here in the absence of any information outside of these two pictures would be unwise.
