Observation 133366: Macrolepiota Singer
When: 2013-05-09
(15.0° 47.0° 1073m)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Description: Large mushroom about 15cm in height from base to pileus apex. Spore print is white. Stipe solid, base somewhat attenuated and darkening. Pileus, near the rim, with a violet tinge. Pileus and stipe with plenty of black scales. Smells like Agaricus spp but could not be so because of the white spore print (non white, commonly brown colored in Agaricus spp). Gills white, free and crowded, not changing color as mushroom ripens, ring present.

Habitat: growing out of the debris in an arboreal ant nest (although it doesn’t look similar to Termitomyces in any aspect).
