When: 2008-11-01
No herbarium specimen
0 Sequences

This is the largest specimen of T. wheeleri I have found to date. The interior gleba shows the pea-shaped structures which make this Tuber somewhat unique.

After 20 minutes or so inside a zip-lock bag, this truffle developed quite a pleasant aromatic signature similar to fresh-roasted nuts (walnuts? cashews?). I really wanted to sample it at that time, but had already reserved this specimen for herbarium purposes. (Oh, the things we truffle-hunters give up in the advancement of science.)
