Observation 133902: Calvatia lloydii Zeller & Coker
When: 2013-05-12

Notes: This was found in almost the same spot as; http://mushroomobserver.org/94830 on the Pacific Crest trail.
The specimen was 5.8 X 3.8 cm and was a little more mature than the one found last year.
It seemed to be developing two vent holes.
The spores were ~ 3.2-4.2 microns, round with some thin spines as well as a short pedicel on many.
The capillitium lacked significant branching and appeared to have scattered round pits.
All that additional info hasn’t helped in getting to species.

Used references: Sthephanie Jarvis and Fred Stevens….Both think it could well be Calvatia lloydii. It probably will be sequenced soon.
Hankea is also likely to give way back to Calvatia but I’ll let someone else make that change when it becomes more official.
