Recognized by sight: bright pink fluted stipe. pale brown, fragile, ballooned-out cap, edges not attached to stipe. enormous fruit body, almost 20 cm across!

Recognized by sight: DNA of this species is firmly within the Genus Gyromitra. Both this species and G. sphaerospora are now in newly created subgenus Pseudorhizina.
