Observation 13434: Tricholoma (Fr.) Staude
When: 2008-11-01
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Have just gone through all 19 pages of Tricholoma observations on Mushroom Observer, and failed to find a good color match for this collection, which I have drying now at home. The mushrooms (there were 2) were both found nearly buried in sand, with wide reddish-brown scales on the cap. There is a zonate ring of scales on the cap, as well as many scales on the stipe. Base of the stipe comes to a point, widening quickly about 1 inch above the base of the stipe to the widest point, which measures 1.5 inches, then tapering slightly to the cap, where it is 1.25 inches wide; cap is covered with reddish-brown scales that have some yellowish tones in them, with an underlying gray-tinted white base. The veil is still attached in both specimens, and everything is covered in sand.
