What makes you so certain that this isn’t “Cerioporus” varius? Also, you are very experienced in reading trees, is there not evidence for one large clade, Polyporus, that contains the species that have been split out to Cladomeris, Picipes, Cerioporus, Favolus, and Neofavolus? Do you think that all this splitting is really justified by the molecular data?

For the suggestion Dan! The flesh of this mushroom was very pliable, and the stipe remained much as it is pictured above after 10 hours in the dehydrator.
