Observation 134664: Rhizina undulata Fr.
When: 2013-05-27
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Brown, somewhat granular cortex with white margin 15mm to 20mm in diameter, 10mm to 15mm high. 5 or 6 in one area on ground burned last July (2012). Hollow, filled with dirt and wood ashes, helmut shaped. Sorry of the poor focus; why do I always feel rushed on the trail? Not a tuber or truffle – looks like a draped corticoid fruit body. What is it?

The occurrence map shows it on the west coast, in Canada and Russia. This is the first observation on the East coast.
