I popped an Achilles tendon a couple of years ago, but what happened to you seems much more painful. I’m very sorry about your injury.

There are some larger taxa in subsection Limbatulae; so that is still an option.

Also, although I’ve never heard of such a thing, we should still consider the possibility of peckiana with an overly robust partial veil.

Maybe some day (in good health) you will see this creature again.

Very best,

I wasn’t able to dry any material this time. I was down there with in-laws, and after I collected the specimens, I tore my ACL and Meniscus again playing volleyball, so needless to say my attention shifted from mushrooms to agonizing pain pretty quickly…

This mushroom was not small, but actually rather large. The pileus was about 3.0" I’m diameter. The stipe was about 4" in length and roughly 3/4" diameter.

I see you have no dried material…

Is that correct?

Very best,

Was this a very small species?

The appendiculate cap margin could point to subsect. Limbatulae in Amanita sect. Lepidella.

Or maybe this is A. peckiana with a more than usually persistent p.v.?

Very best,

Hello, Derek.

The partial veil is something that is not usually seen in mature species of sect. Amidella. The only North American species of the section with even a transient partial veil is A. peckiana; and that species only has the p.v. briefly just as the cap begins to expand.

So I’m doubtful about sect. Amidella in this case.

Very best,
