Notes:
Caps up to 4.6 cm across and cuticle peeling about half way.
No strong odor and taste mild.
Stipe white and no color changes.
Spore print creamy.
Spores ~ 7.9-8.9 X 6.0-7.0 microns, with warts up to 1 micron high and some partial reticulation.
I usually don’t bother with red Russulas in this area as it is difficult to find specimens that are in good shape and of course it is usually an exercise in futility to try to put a species name on them. These looked promising but the combination of characteristics has not proved fruitful. I was willing to pick a name from Roger Philips’ 4-5 pages of red Russulas in his Mushrooms of North America. No help!
