Notes: Found by others at the SFSU Spring Sierra course.
The first micro-shot is of the gill edge at 400x in KOH. The cheilocystidia are utriform, with sub-capitate ends, on a non-fertile edge.
The second micro-shot is of spores from the gill at 1000x in KOH. The spores are ellipsoid, smooth, tan with no germ pore. The apr. size is 8 × 4.5 um.
This was id’ed using the Flammulaster section of Funga Nordica, and there it keys out to F. muricatus, and the spore shape seems to agree well there. Other species have subtle differenced in the spore shape.
