Specimens immature?

Immature specimens could account for the paler and possibly smaller than average spores. I agree with Paneaolus cyanescens.

Thanks Christine

This looks like a pretty clear Panaeolus cyanesecens to me now. :)

Nice work, all

This is great stuff.

I would call this Panaeolus cyanescens

-Basidia were almost exclusively 4-spored

-Spores 12.21 × 9.02 (which is on the lower end but still withing the described size range 12-15(17) µm long)

- fruitbody pale colored (whitish, yellowish, isabelline)[and not strongly pigmented with any of these colors: grey-green, Vaccine, blackish-brown]

-prominant germ pore, spores never broader than they are long

-Metuloids NOT very pallid (most fairly heavily pigmented yellow to brown in KOH) and NOT generally thinwalled (fairly think, especially near apex, some 2-3.5 micron thick walls at apex), apex was mostly without crystals, however some were found with crystals.

little variability in spore size:
13.16-12.21-10.47+-0.740 × 9.57-9.016-8.40 +-0.259

Spores measurements

It helps to measure at least 20 or more spores in cases like this.

“Spores about 12-15(17) μm long; carpophore often
pale coloured (whitish, yellowish, isabelline)
………………………………… Panaeolus cyanescens (4)
- Spores about 9-12 μm long; carpophore strongly
pigmented (grey-green, Vaccine, blackish-brown)
5”

Your 12 measured spores 10.47 – 13.15…carpophore colors seems to agree with the former option…
