Observation 137312: Leccinum snellii A.H. Sm., Thiers & Watling

When: 2013-06-21

Collection location: Seven Tubs Natural Area, Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]

Who: Dave W (Dave W)

No specimen available

Interestingly, when I first cut this specimen lengthwise (at a mushroom club meeting) there was no bluing in the stipe base. Later, at home, hoping to get a lead on the ID, I cut it again and the bluing set in fairly quickly. Cleaned my knife and made several new cut… bluing every time!

KOH at first pale yellow on freshly cut stipe context, then to gray.
