Observation 137510: Boletus L.
When: 2013-06-22

Notes: Cap 2-1/2, Stipe 2-1/4", Cap surface shiny – red pink brown fading to yellow at margin, margin slightly cracked, pores drop at margin making distinct edge, pores large 1mm to 2mm diameter, angular, staining dark blue-black in 30 seconds, depressed at stipe, but lines from pores extend down stipe 1/2". Stipe also shiny, tapered upward, yellow at top 1/3 turning red for bottom 2/3’s, taste mild, smell pleasantly mushroomy. Context yellow turning slowly pale blue-black. Although photos of stipe are a bit blurry, there is some texture visible on the stipe, but to say per Bessette p. 152 that the red is punctate with red and orange dots seems to be stretching things a bit.Fungarium – NIH and Regional mycoflora #16
