Observation 138250: Amanita volvata (Peck) Lloyd
When: 2013-06-30
(39.7751° -74.5328° )
No herbarium specimen

Notes: A pair of very pulverulent fruitbodies growing under pitch pines. The larger specimen is rather robust, measuring ~5.5-6" in height, with an unexpanded cap of 3-3.5". The cap margins are highly appendiculate. The volval sack is meaty and thick-walled. Could this be Amanita volvata?

The material is the hands of J.A & J.N. Burghardt of NJMA, to be preserved for RET.
