All the images from this observation and the other which you cited came from the same 30 foot area at the same time.

I don’t think the sporangial stage of Ceratiomyxa consists of this much material. The older examples I’ve seen still look more or less like they do when fresh, only drier and less erect. See: http://conabio.inaturalist.org/taxa/56254-Protosteliomycetes
