Observation 13833: Coprinopsis P. Karst.

When: 2008-11-13

Collection location: Ti Bar Fire Station, Siskiyou Co., California, USA [Click for map]

Who: John Harlan (harlanx6)

No specimen available

This group of beautiful, dainty 6" to 8" tall mushrooms was found @ Ti Bar Fire Station in an open grassy area surrounded by douglas fir. The top of the cap is hairy. The cap rim of all specimens in the group were turned up. It’s new to me.

Recognized by sight: Definitely not a true Coprinus or a Parasola. I’d have to see a picture of a young one to be sure between Coprinopsis (stringy universal veil) and Coprinellus (powdery universal veil), but my gut leans towards the former.
