Mating studies on oysters?

Have there been any good mating studies on wild California oysters? Seems like a straight-forward thing to do. I’ve heard a few different names (Pleurotus osreatus and P. pulmonarius come to mind), but I’ve never heard anything conclusive about what occurs in California.
