Observation 138907: Morchella tomentosa Kuo

We got the idea to look for Morchella tomentosa here after the last year’s massive forest fires. All because in 2010 we found a big patch of what looked like M. tomentosa a few hundred km to the West, on a last year’s burnsite near Khanty-Mansiysk. So we went to check a big patch of burnt pine forest and we were lucky:

we found 5 fruitbodies of M. tomentosa among hundreds and hundreds of what looked like a more massive, silvery and geometrically correct version of Morchella conica – very likely another distinct species. A specialist should look into all these obscure Siberian species someday…
