Growing on ground under cedar and balsam fir. Caps 4-9 cm., bittersweet chocolate in center and tacky, fading in color to the margin, in-rolled at first then upturned, cuticles peels back to half of radius. Gills whitish, attached, close. Stem 1.5-4 cm. × 1-3 cm., swollen at base. Brittle stem and gills. No odor, taste, bruising.
