The pores are definitely the right color and intensity for Aureoboletus, and it’s hard to argue with a viscid stipe, but they just looked weird to me.

I never would have thought the two would be confuseable, but apparently the dilemma has existed before:

the caps on these are very pale, the stipes are very short, and the cap texture doesn’t look like it was ever viscid… are you sure these were Aureoboletus?

I know it would still be rather pale, but they struck me as B. innixus
