don’t think there is such a name as Coprinopsis plicatilis, perhaps you are confusing it with Coprinus plicatilis which is the old name for Parasola plicatilis. All inky caps were once called Coprinus, but the genus has since been split, true Coprinus species are like C. comatus, the shaggy mane and are in the family Agaricaceae. The other inky caps were split into a few different genera in the family Psathyrellaceae, Parasola, Coprinellus, and Coprinopsis. I think you found a Coprinopsis species because the faint traces of the veil on the cap and also its highly deliquescent cap that flips up is reminiscent of species in section Lanatuli. For more information you can check out Kou’s inky cap page or for a more technical approach if not fully up to date you can look at Ulje’s Coprinus Site which still has all the species listed under the name Coprinus. You can use a site like mycobank to look up the current names.

I am totally confused now. I tried to input this specimen as Coprinopsis plicatilis and was not allowed to enter it that way. Believe the message said that name was deprecated (think that was the term). So I used the suggested Parasola. I am not a “techie” when it comes to mushrooms or any other field. Just enjoy finding them and trying to come up with an acceptable name. So if someone can give me a clue as to all of this I would truly appreciate it. I am making an attempt to learn something here along the way. Thanks.
