Notes: On ground under balsam fir. Cap up to 9 cm., blood red, sunken center with wrinkled margin. Gills cream colored. Stem up to 7 cm. × 1.5 cm., red blush, tapered at apex, swollen base. No distinctive odor. No bruising. Peppery taste. Yellow spore deposit.
