Most North American ‘G.lucidum’ is G.resinaceum sensu lato. G.curtisii seems to be most closest morphologically in North America but surprisingly falls in the Asian Ganoderma group. Ganoderma lucidum sensu stricto is primarily restricted to Europe with some collections in Asia. The widely cultivated Asian species however is not G.lucidum and there is some discussion over which species it really is, but it is distantly related to true G.lucidum. So far no G.lucidum has been confirmed to occur in North America.
