the status of A. russuloides is questioned.

One taxon that ret considers as a match for A. russuloides is Amanita sp-S01. I have made collections which qualify for placement under this species name, and the mushrooms are fairly similar to the ones in this obs. Differences: sp-S01 does not show the abrupt “rolled sock” volval margin on the upper part of the bulb, and the annulus of sp-S01 is fleeting. The smaller mushroom seen here shows the “funnel” annulus which is a strong velatipes character, and the abrupt margin on the bulb. The unexpanded one also looks to be a bit too completely yellow for sp-S01. But I admit, it seems difficult to completely rule out this possbility.

These are small for specimens of velatipes.

Isn’t it a little small?

Good photo, but the small size and few warts make me wonder why you excluded
Amanita russuloides?
