Observation 140452: Inocybe jurana sensu Hesler

When: 2013-06-08

Collection location: Big Thicket, Polk Co., Texas, USA [Click for map]

Who: Ron Pastorino (Ronpast)

No specimen available

Found in mixed woods in the Menard Creek Corridor.
Caps up to 5.5 cm across.
Couldn’t get a good spore print but spores appeared to be relatively dark, probably brownish.
Spores ~ 10.3-13.3 X 6.0-7.9(9.0) microns, smooth.
Q(range) = 1.41-1.83.
Possibly an Inocybe species but they were a little to far gone to save.
Edit 7/20/2013;
Branden Matheny suggested using Inocybe jurana sensu Hesler for this collection.
He said that that these look like what a closely related species to the European I. adaequata(I. jurana). However, I. jurana probably does not occur in north America, but two as yet not formally published species do, and these appear to be the eastern one(I. vinaceobrunnea nom. prov.).
