Observation 141714: Amanita daucipes (Mont.) Lloyd

Notes: This is a large mushroom, ~ 9" in length.

The cap has a powder that easily rubs off.

The volva is HUGE! 1.25" thick and about 4" long.

Can anyone ID the mushroom that I have found?

The large radicating bulb is not the volva in this species; the volva (with veritical fracture lines, see edges of the cake-like patches on the cap) is friable and changes from white to a light brownish pink. The carrot-like bulb gives the species its name “carrot-foot” (daucipes).
