Observation 14173: Rhizopogon ellenae
When: 2008-10-09
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Found near margin of wet meadow near lodgepole and Jeffery pine, next to an unseasonably early Sarcodes plant (see photo). The white peridium, chocolate gleba, and staining is pretty typical of other members of the Amylogogon subgroup. The close proximity of Sarcodes made R. ellenae a likely suspect, as this is the only host to Sarcodes in this area. ITS sequence confirmed the R. ellenae species group.

This is the Sarcodes plant that the specimen was next to. A little odd to be up so early.
