East Block of GNP (one of the few forested areas of the park – the NW “Story Lull” (?) area)
Growing off fallen aspen tree (Populus tremuloides) in forest of purely aspen trees. The forest seemed fairly old and undisturbed (trees very tall and wide – some about human width), lots of shrubs and dead woody material. Sloped landscape.
This was the smaller of two large fruiting bodies growing off it.
Spores pale reddish brown en masse, covering top of FBs and surrounding vegetation (especially Sarsaparilla (Aralia nudicaulis) in the photos).
Typical staining pores beneath for Artist’s Conk.
