Observation 141831: Butyriboletus abieticola (Thiers) D. Arora & J.L. Frank
When: 2013-08-04
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Location: McNeil Point Trail.
On ground, in mixed spruce-hemlock forest.
The mushroom in the 1st photo (image 354941) is the same as the top left-hand mushroom in the 2nd photo (image 354942).
This observation refers only to that mushroom and the bottom row of the 2nd photo (image 354942); a total of 4 specimens. The other two are covered by observation 141830.
The pores of the big one (top row, left side) stain blue immediately when bruised. The cap flesh stains blue within about a minute when cut. The stem does not stain at all. The taste is not bitter.
The buttons (bottom row) are the same, except that they a couple lack much in the way of tubes (<= 1mm) so there’s no staining there. See attached picture.
