Observation 141916: Cortinarius caperatus (Pers.) Fr.

When: 2013-08-04

Collection location: Echo Summit, El Dorado Co., California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Mike McCurdy (lesmcurdy)

No specimen available

This is the second time in 2 years that I have found a group of these mushrooms in this general area (in a mixed fir forest), and in extremely dry conditions. I see only 3 other MO observations of C. caperatus from the Sierras, and I’m wondering how prevalent it might be in the Sierra Nevada.
