Observation 142009: Bothia castanella (Peck) Halling, Baroni, Binder
When: 2013-08-03

Notes: This bolete was found during the annual Helen Miknis Memorial Foray of the Eastern Penn Mushroomers. Participants at the foray, including our identifier, John Plischke III, were unable to identify it in references available to us (including the book by Bessette). Four photo of the specimen are included. Note in particular how the pores run down onto the top of the stipe. Any suggestions as to its identity are welcome.

John, what about flavor (mild or bitter), outcome of macrochemical test, bruising, spore print color & size, basidiocarp dimensions? Surely, you’ve checked for these before coming to the conclusion it’s not in B-R-B!
