On mossy ground under balsam fir in mixed woods. Cap up to 38 mm., red brown, zoned, sunken center with pointy umbo in young FB’s, paler margin. Gills pallid becoming color of cap, decurrent, white milk. Stem up to 42 mm. × 5-6 mm., color of cap, paler at apex. Mild taste when fresh. Sweet odor. I have a hard time with odors but I had two friends smell the dried FB’s and one said brown sugar, the other said curry.
