Recognized by sight: I’ve never found A. augustus this late in the year but we have had an unusual warm spell. Found under cypress. Warm brown fibrils on cap which bruises yellow. Sweet almondy odor.

The fibrils in the cap are a warm dark cinnamon brown. The largest of the 3 mushrooms shown in the photo is ~30 cm in length which seems to be too large for A. smithii.

stipe may be too smooth for augustus…how bout smithii?

If those cap fibrils are really blackish like they seem, I’d guess perobscurus
over augustus…
