It looks like it’s a mistake on IF’s part, as they accept all the other new names from the paper. Probably because “A. giganteus” was already named and subsequently replaced in the past.

The paper is formally renaming the species, the wording is just “polite”.

The current name according to Index Fungorum still appears to be Leucopaxillus giganteus.


I don’t know how current they are, and the article mentioned that Atropaxillus was a suggested name.
