When: 2013-08-21
Collection location: Perry, Maine, USA [Click for map]
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Collected on hot day after almost 2 weeks without rain. Photos taken a few hours after collection so colors have changed somewhat. The cap had a more lilac gray to gray brown cast when I first spotted it in the woods. Cap up to 45 mm., dry, shiny, smooth, hairy at margin, gray white flesh. Gills cinnamon, broad, whitish partial veil. Stem 75 mm. × 12-22 mm., swollen at base, flesh lilac gray at top to gray white below. Pleasant taste. Distinctive odor, not pleasant. KOH on flesh of cap and stem purple brown.
