Observation 144007: Amanita sect. Validae (Fr.) Singer
When: 2013-08-25
No herbarium specimen

Notes: An unusually-colored Validae species — the cap is gray with just a touch of a brownish hue. The cap margin appears to be non-striate (pix). The partial veil is very fragile, but remnants of it can still be seen clinging to the stipe. That, together with a small bulb, makes placement into the above section a certainty. The closest “match” is A. sp-54, but that one has a yellow volva and striate cap margins.

This material is in the hands of R.E.T.

this make sense since the pix were taken less than three hours before sunset. The flash didn’t help either.

The first image is much more red than the the original material was.
