When: 2013-08-30
(34.2959° -110.8607° 2320m)
Who: wbwarner

Notes: several between ponderosa pine (large and many saplings) in area of ponderosa pine and aspen mixed forest. Two separate groups were found, along with many more (mostly buttons) Leccinum insigne. Note close-up of large pores—the slightly darkened area was a “back of the finger nail scratch” and resulted in no perceptible staining within a half hour of the scratch. Several hours later that area had turned a medium brown, but the context did not stain during the same time period. Spore print was a medium brown.

I found a gigantic one this summer (2014), about 25 miles farther west than Bill’s collection.
