Notes: Found growing in clusters solitary and in pairs over a large area. Growing at the base of living and dead treas.
cap 5 cm to 7 cm convexed to becoming up lifted. Golden brown yellow. cap some what roughened
gills white with red staining close Attached losley to the stalk
Spore print white
stalk fiberious olive green with yellow tints brown in age with a yellow ring.

Recognized by sight: though not mentioned in any version of Tom Volk’s key, nor by Kuo (would check printed literature too but am away from my desk), iamges seen here: http://www.mushroomexpert.com/armillaria_mellea.html plainly demonstrate yellow annuli on a number of A. mellea.
Based on microscopic features: no clamps visible at the bases of basidia
