on ground in mixed woods; cap 3-5 cm dark tan, very finely hairy, hemispherical, dry; pores minute, round, cinnamon colored; stipe 4-6 cm x .8-1.0 cm, tan, yellow mycelium coating underground base; flesh yellow, non-blueing; spore print olive
comment: keys out to C. piperatus, but not peppery and thicker stipe.
