On dead wood in mixed woods. Cap up to 5 cm., whitish with orange buff scales, heavier over disc, whitish flesh. Gills whitish, close, attached, staining orange brown. Stem up to 8 cm. × 1.5 cm., whitish, scaly, whitish flesh staining orange brown. White partial veil. Distinctive odor. Mild taste.
