While the top was broken off yesterday, it was still quite hard and difficult to cut with a knife. Interior gleba purple-lavender to silky-gray near center; top of peridium very thin and red staining. Found near Lodgepole pine.

Black stains on Scleroderma.
Red at top of peridium (bottom of photo).
Base of sporocarp. Thick white ropey rhizomorphs extend outward for several inches.
No staining where bottom of sterile base is located.
