Recognized by sight: very similar to L. rubidus both in odor (fresh)and appearance; stipe is solid rather than hollow and much less fragile than L. rubidus. I thought these were Candy Caps at first. What bothers me is that these were found under madrone and pine while L. rufulus is reportedly associated with oak.

Recognized by sight: stipe is occasionally solid in young L. rubidus
