Notes: On ground under balsam fir in mixed woods which include beech, birch and red maple. Cap up to 5 cm., dry, smooth, white with brownish disc and rounded umbo. Gills close, white, notched. Stem white, up to 5 cm. × 2 cm., swollen base. Cap and stem flesh white and firm. Unpleasant taste. No distinctive odor. White spore deposit.
