On ground under red oak in mixed woods. I saw balsam fir and black spruce nearby but not tamarack though it is common in this area. Cap up to 8 cm., slimy. Yellow angular pores bruising reddish. Stem red brown with yellow ring, 7 cm. × 12 mm. Flesh of cap and stem yellow bruising reddish when cut.

I went back to this spot where I collected this and there are 3 mature tamaracks within about 20 meters.
